Once again our Safety Council will sponsor the Safety Day at the Zoo event at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, June 20th from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

This will be the 27th year for Safety Day at the Zoo and we are hoping for lots of help, good weather and plenty of smiles on everyone, both volunteers and the general public who come through our exhibits. Our exhibitors are members and other agencies that come together at the Zoo to promote various aspects of safety and good health to the public and especially children. Last year there were close to 5,000 visitors who came through our area.

Tom Rabe stated that it is truly gratifying to see so many people come through our event, pick-up valuable information and special treats for the kids, and walk away with ear-to-ear grins. A day at the Zoo is such a treat by itself but with our event, it’s frosting on the cake!

We will set up in our usual spots, the Palava Hut Pavilion that is located just inside the main entrance gate and along a portion of the adjoining grounds. Set up will begin at 8 a.m. so we can be ready for the Zoo’s opening at 9:30 a.m. The event will last until approximately 2 p.m. I am asking all of our members to consider participating in this worthwhile event. If you cannot be present at the Zoo, you may want to consider providing something that can be passed out or it would be greatly appreciated if you could make a donation to help offset our expenses for this event.

Safety Day at the Zoo is an event where members and friends of the Safety Council come together to promote some aspect of safety, good health or ways to protect the environment. It is generally geared toward children however we have always taken a broad approach to this event. The prevailing theme is in-line with the Safety Council’s Mission which is to help make our community a safe place to live and work. Participants should incorporate this theme into their display and be mindful of it when selecting items for distribution. Typically, each participant is given a table for their display and you may want to consider the following: offer information brochures or other materials with a safety/good health or an environmentally friendly message, have trinkets or other fun items to pass-out, utilize a static display that provides information and is of general interest to the public, or offer the more popular, interactive display. In some cases suitable equipment or vehicles may be considered for your display.

All participants will receive a special t-shirt to wear indicating that they are a part of this event. Also, refreshments will be made available to participants during the event.

Safety Day at the Zoo is an excellent opportunity for our members to get public recognition for their active support with our mission to promote safety and good health in our community and at the same time promote their organization. For more information, or for an Exhibitor Form that should be completed by each organization wishing to participate and return it to the Safety Council by fax at 216-621-0062, or by U.S. Mail no later than June 6th. We need to review space requirements and other needs to ensure for a successful event. please call the Safety Council at 216-621-0059.
